Hi, I’m Nick Weiss. Thanks for taking a look at my page! I’ve been working in various facets of the music and wedding industries since 2001. In addition to DJing I’m an accomplished guitarist, ukulele player, and vocalist. I have provided both DJ and Live Music services separately and in combination at over 1000 events.
I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and found my love for music at an early age. I started trumpet at 8 years old and found my true loves, guitar and bass, at age 12. Other instruments followed. Ukulele was an obvious and fun addition to my arsenal. I’m also a fair to middling drummer and bad piano player, but that’s never stopped me from enjoying them. The advent of electronic drums and keyboards with headphones have improved my family and neighbors’ quality of life considerably!
My mother is a trained musician. I ended up studying music at the same school she did, the Music Conservatory at Roosevelt University in Chicago. In my college years and shortly after, I worked as a hired gun guitar and bass player in many bands around the city and region. One of the highlights was at a family wedding of a pro sports team owner and the mayor of Chicago’s Green Tie Ball where I played on the same stage Tom Petty played on a few hours later! I found work in tuxedo wedding bands, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band, several jazz combos, and even performed as an actor/musician in Tony and Tina’s wedding, an interactive play that ran for decades in Chicago and around the country.
My DJ career began in my college years as well, as an offshoot of owning a PA system for my own bands. The owner of an Irish bar in Forest Park liked the music I played before a gig, and there I was, their new DJ and event emcee. I had a massive and diverse music collection and have always enjoyed providing the right brand of music for whatever the crowd or event. Owning and enjoying music by Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, The Meters, Nirvana, Diana Krall, Public Enemy, and Whitney Houston served me well in my fledgling DJ career, and my diverse tastes and musical knowledge continue to be an asset.
In 2005, I met my future wife on a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. We did long distance for a year, trading visits between my home in Chicago and hers in San Diego. My choice to uproot and move to San Diego was not a difficult one. 18 years of marriage and 2 kids later, I haven’t regretted a second, other than a few challenging periods of craving a proper Italian beef sandwich.
While weddings are the cornerstone of my DJ and music career, I’m also very experienced with emceeing and DJing corporate events, trade shows, festivals, and private events. I’m comfortable with a wide variety of music and would love to create the perfect soundtrack for your event. I look forward to sharing my love of music with you!
