Hi, I’m Christy Agronow, best known as DJ SASS! Getting to DJ for over a decade has been such an honor, sharing in the celebration of love and life with everyone. Spreading love and happiness through music is the most rewarding experience to me, and I am grateful to get to do this for a living. It is my goal in life to leave a legacy of love, and DJing for you is helping me achieve that goal.
I fell in love with music at a young age. At 6 years old, I was taught to sing “Old Time Rock & Roll,” and just like that, I was in love! It’s amazing to me how we all have our own soundtracks to our lives that mold us and shape us and make us recall the best time of our lives. Personalizing your music selection for you for your special day is one of my favorite parts of being your DJ because I get the privilege of hearing a part of the soundtrack to your life.
I am a true southern Georgia Peach, raised in the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia, but San Diego has always been my home away from home ever since I graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from San Diego State University. At SDSU, I got to be a performance major and learn the art of performing through the theater, television, film, and new media department. I like to think that my SDSU professors are proud of the way I have put their teachings to good use.
Starting my DJ career in 2013 on Hornblower Cruises in San Diego was a dream come true! Getting to rock the boat on Hornblower for nearly 3 years straight and combine my passion for music with my experience in performing paved the way for me to make DJing my full-time career. DJing a ton of events like weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, corporate events, holiday events, The Pride Festival, and so much more opened up a world of opportunities for me to do what I love: DJ SASS DAT!!!
People always ask me how I got my name, DJ SASS. Growing up, I always danced with moves like Jagger, and I always sang my heart and soul out with a big smile on my face. Add in my Diva-like hair, and you can imagine why I’ve been called sassy my whole life. I remember being asked what is sass, and I replied: it’s that thing all women are born with. When I got the opportunity to DJ on Hornblower, my mom and I drove across country from Georgia to San Diego, and my mom asked me what my DJ name was going to be. Without hesitation, I replied: DJ SASS!
My name has transformed over the years like the Artist formerly known as Prince, and just when I think it couldn’t get any sassier, it does! When I got to be a volunteer DJ for the DJ Ministry at the Rock Church in San Diego, I became known as DJ Sista SASS, and I quickly acquired even more sassy nicknames that keep me laughing. DJ Sassy Pants, DJ Sassafras, Lady HaHa, and SASSquatch are definitely some of my favorites.
Just like my DJ name keeps evolving, so do my DJ skills. Getting to learn how to Karaoke DJ and DJ fun game nights has been a blast because singing, dancing, laughing, while DJing are definitely all of my favorite things to do in life. Eating animal-style fries from In-N-Out, eating California burritos, and walking on the beautiful beaches of San Diego with the sand between my toes are also up there on my top favorite list of things to do. I often joke that I am a professionally paid party crasher, who is an expert at making sure you have the time of your life!
I love all music that makes my sass shake! 😝 But as a girl from the dirty dirty south, soul-shaking hip-hop is definitely one of my favorites. Growing up singing and dancing along to Selena also made me a huge fan of Latina flavors, and I absolutely love the love vibes that I get from DJing electronic dance music. I also love the swanky classics, jazz, ballads, rock, country, K-pop, & EMO! Honestly, it’s hard to pick a genre of music that’s my favorite. It’s like asking my mom to pick a favorite daughter, even though I am pretty sure she would say me, Lol!
Joining Dancing DJ Productions is serendipitous to me because I truly am a dancing DJ. Music just makes me move! They say our vibe attracts our tribe, so I am thrilled to have found my tribe and be a part of this DJ family that dances and keeps you dancing on the dance floor.
